Flags In Ceremony
There is a tradition stated in 1948 at Arlington National Cemetery called Flags In. On the Saturday before Memorial Day, a U.S. Flag is placed in front of every grave marker in Arlington. This tradition has expanded to include all National Cemeteries. It has also expanded to many local cemeteries and is done by the VFW, The American Legion, and American Veterans organizations. Here in Patchogue, the three organizations come together to do all of the local cemeteries.
