Tomorrow is the Officer Installation Ceremony. Unlike when we served in the military, there is no rank in the American Legion. All members are considered equal, and that is how it should be since this is a volunteer organization. That said, there is an honor associated with being elected to serve in an officer position. We don't get promoted, we get elected. And more importantly, we are elected by our peers, the members of the Post. Being an officer in the Legion does not mean we have authority like there is in the military or in business. This is a volunteer organization, and the officers have to keep that in mind all the time. We can ask our members to help, but we cant order it. It is expected that the officers will be the leaders, but their success depends largely on the members because no single person can make a Post successful.
